Obadiah
Obadiah is a short book in the Old Testament that delivers a powerful message. The book begins with a prophecy against the nation of Edom, which had been a long-time enemy of the Israelites. Despite their kinship, the Edomites betrayed the Israelites and contributed to their downfall.
But as we read on, we see that this prophecy is not just about Edom. It’s a reminder that God is a just God who will not tolerate pride and arrogance. The Edomites had become arrogant and felt invincible because of their mountain fortresses. But they had forgotten that their strength came from God, and they would ultimately face judgment for their actions.
In our own lives, it’s easy to become prideful and think that we can do everything on our own. We may feel invincible because of our own accomplishments, status, or possessions. But just like the Edomites, we must remember that our strength comes from God. We are nothing without Him, and we must always remain humble before Him.
The book of Obadiah also reminds us that God is a God of justice. He will not let evil go unpunished, and He will always defend His people. We can trust that God will work all things together for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28).
So if you’re feeling overwhelmed or defeated, take heart. Remember that God is with you and that He is fighting for you. Stay humble before Him and trust in His unfailing love and justice. As the Psalmist writes in Psalm 121:2, "My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth."
